Music is one of the key elements of the worship at St. John’s, with a choir and a small acoustic instrumental group assisting with services on a regular basis – with their involvement likely to increase as a result of the work required on the organ in due course.
The choir is for anyone from the age of 7 upwards: there is no upper limit. You don’t need to be able to read music, although of course it does help, and you don’t have to be able to come every week.
Most of our members have work or family commitments that mean they’re not there every practice and service. The Choir sings at the weekly 10 am Eucharist service, and at special choral services scattered through the year at major festivals. In the summer, they sing at some weddings, and on many occasions have taken part in the Festival Evensong at Chichester Cathedral, as well as Deanery events where a joint choir is put together for such services as Choral Evensong. Music ranges from the very formal to the highly informal.
The Choir meets every Friday between 7.15 and 8.30pm.
To join the Music Group, you simply have to able to sing!
If you’re interested in the choir, please come along any week
